We planted 660 trees!

August 25, 2022

We planted 660 trees! Via AMCAP’s GEM 2.0 Program, eight staff members took two hours out of their working day to assist with planting a variety of natives at Bannister Creek Reserve on Wednesday 24th August 2022.

Bannister Creek is a community group that was formed in 1996 and they have done extensive work revegetating the Bannister Creek Reserve as well as other areas within the catchment. Bannister Creek was once a high-walled drain, but over years of revegetation and restoration it is now a functioning living stream creating an important ecological corridor. The City of Canning along with SERCUL (South East Regional Centre for Urban Landcare) assisted our GEM Committee members in arranging our staff to be a part of this ongoing planting project which forms part of the Bannister Creek Catchment group. The planting our group did was infill planting.

Staff were given a short introduction to the project, including identifying hazards that might be encountered whilst on site and were given a demonstration of how to plant. Participants then had the opportunity to get stuck into planting. The feedback was positive and the inventive design of the Pottiputki made for a pleasant and ergonomic planting experience.
